Se incrementó la venta de pescado tanto de Laguna como de vivero en el mercado de Venustiano Carranza debido a la accesibilidad del precio de este alimento de acuerdo a expendedores quienes aseguraron que este incremento en la venta se da pese a la mala fama que le generan al pescado otros sectores productivos.
De acuerdo a Enrique García Sánchez comercializador de pescado en este municipio, el problema es que los introductores de carnes rojas como cerdo y res han señalado que la pesca proveniente del Lago de Chapala dista de ser saludable debido a la contaminación de este embalse lo que fue refutado por el también pescador al asegurar que el producto de la Laguna es perfectamente comestible.
Además, señaló no todo el pescado que se comercializa en esta parte del estado proviene de embalses naturales como la laguna de Chapala o los ríos tributarios sino que gran parte es extraída de presas y viveros por lo que los precios de este producto varían ya que un kilo de mojarra puede adquirirse en los expendios a veinte pesos el kilo.
De hecho, dijo que en las variedades de pescado que se ofrecen en este mercado los precios van de 20 hasta los 60 pesos por kilo, aún así aseguró que el pescado se constituye en la opción más económica de alimentación.
De acuerdo al entrevistado, además del Lago de Chapala, los vendedores se abastecen de los viveros de bagre del municipio de Sahuayo, las presas de Jaripo y San Antonio en el municipio de Villamar, presa de La Guadalupe en Quitupan y la Presa Villaseñor en Valle de Juárez en el estado de Jalisco sin embargo el producto extraído de la laguna de Chapala resulta el más económico y por tanto el que mayor demanda tiene.
