En este momento de cada 100 pacientes que tienen alguna patología neurológica, tres tienen el mal de Parkinson, lo que pudiera interpretarse como poco, pero el padecimiento va a la alza entre la población, incluso hay casos donde este mal aparece desde los 45 años provocando la incapacidad para trabajar debido a que es una limitante importante para realizar alguna labor.
En el marco de la conmemoración del día mundial del Parkinson el pasado sábado, René Nájera Alvarado, neurólogo, señaló que los principales síntomas son: temblor en reposo, ya que aunque no haga una actividad presentan un movimiento de “cuenta monedas” en las manos; rigidez, es decir, los movimientos son lentos, como si el paciente estuviera tieso y se encorvan; la mirada permanece indiferente, tienen poca mímica facial, como si tuviera una máscara puesta; caminar y no se pueden detener hasta que se cansan y se van de lado”.
Explicó “se trata de un trastorno progresivo, es la degeneración de una parte del cerebro que se origina por una sustancia negra, por lo que el encéfalo adquiere ese color. Este posee gran cantidad de neuronas que producen una sustancia llamada dopamina, la cual se encarga de activar una serie de circuitos en el cerebro para permitirnos los movimientos normales junto con otros circuitos, pero con el tiempo estas neuronas se van terminando y cuando el 60 por ciento de neuronas se han perdido comienzan los problemas de Parkinson”.
Agregó “la gente nace con esa predisposición, ya trae el marcaje genético para desarrollar la enfermedad, únicamente falta que llegue a la edad adecuada donde ya tenga una despoblación neuronal importante y empiecen los síntomas. O bien, si esa persona trae marcaje genético, entra en contacto con ciertos agentes como pesticida y metales pesados que hay en los pozos donde se toma el agua para cultivo, puede desencadenar con mayor facilidad el problema, de igual forma si tiene una enfermedad de tipo viral; entre otros trastornos que se vinculan como teorías producibles del problema”.
Indicó finalmente que la enfermedad es lenta y progresiva, es por ello que tarda muchos años en manifestarse el Parkinson, “habitualmente personas de 45 años o más es cuando empiezan las manifestaciones”.
