-Necesario conocer más del tema para mejorar calidad de vida de pacientes

El 7, 8 y 9 de octubre se desarrollará en Guadalajara Jalisco el Congreso Nacional para pacientes de esclerosis múltiple (EM) 2016, evento que congregará a 700 pacientes de las 28 asociaciones que hay en la República Mexicana, quienes estarán acompañados por sus familiares, por lo que en total se tendrá una asistencia de un mil 500 personas.
Así lo informó Gonzalo Contreras Contreras, presidente de la Asociación de EM de la región Zamora AC, quien dijo que este congreso reunirá a 6 neurólogos y terapistas provenientes de Uruguay, Paraguay, Cuba, Houston; así como del interior de la República Mexicana: Guadalajara, Sonora, Mexicali y Cd de México.
Incluye ponencias sobre avances en materia de tratamientos, mitos y realidades sobre vitamina D, secuelas de EM y su tratamiento; logros y retos de la EM; terapias alternativas; aprendiendo a vivir con EM; terapias en niños con EM; por mencionar algunas. Además también se impartirán los siguientes talleres: intercambio de experiencias de cuidadores y terapia física en cama.
Contreras Contreras añadió que lamentablemente hay mucho desconocimiento de esta enfermedad que afecta al sistema nervioso central, cuyos síntomas son los siguientes: adormecimiento de las extremidades, deterioro óptico “de ahí la importancia de este congreso para que se tenga mayor conocimiento de la enfermedad y se mejore la calidad de vida de los pacientes, pues incluso muchos de ellos no saben que el café agudiza la enfermedad”.
“Mucha gente, por ignorancia, cree que la enfermedad es contagiosa y hereditaria cuando no es así. Es degenerativa-progresiva y afecta el entorno familiar, no solo económicamente sino moral y psicológicamente. Muchos no quieren aceptar la enfermedad, sin embargo, se deben enfrentar a ella”, subrayó.
Indicó que anteriormente la EM afectaba sobre todo a pacientes de 20 a 40 años, no obstante, cada vez afecta en edades más tempranas, “incluso tenemos el registro de un paciente de 4 años, la enfermedad no avisa, llega en el momento menos esperado. Por cada 100 habitantes, afecta a un hombre. Y a dos mujeres, por cada 100 mil habitantes, siendo más agresiva la enfermedad para ellas”.
Señaló que la enfermedad aún no está considerada dentro del Seguro Popular, por lo que cada una de las asociaciones de EM a nivel nacional están pugnando por que se incluya en gastos catastróficos para que se pueda atender a los pacientes que carecen de seguridad social, “he hablado con las diputadas locales Adriana Campos y Noemí Ramírez; con los senadores Salvador Vega Casillas y hasta el momento no hemos tenido respuesta”.
Indicó que de los 20 pacientes de Zamora integrantes de la Asociación que él encabeza, 15 carecen de seguridad social, situación que resulta preocupante dado que los tratamientos (inyecciones) llegan a rondar de los 8 mil a 65 mil pesos y se requieren por lo menos de tres a la semana. No obstante, derivado de este congreso fortalecen los vínculos de amistad con el resto de las asociaciones del país para que entre ellos mismos se poyen con la dotación de medicamentos. Pues cada AC cuenta con un banco de medicamentos”.
El congreso tendrá un costo de 3 mil pesos por paciente, costo que también incluye el hotel y hospedaje, “afortunadamente el DIF de Jacona nos facilitó la camioneta para discapacidad para trasladarnos al congreso”.
Durante la rueda de prensa acompañaron a Contreras Contreras, Genoveva García Barajas y Aarón Ramírez Guillen, pacientes con EM quienes compartieron su experiencia con la enfermedad, “inclusive los mismos doctores carecen de la sensibilidad para el trato a los pacientes con EM. A mí me dijeron que esta enfermedad es peor que el cáncer, que ni vendiendo mi casa pudiera curarme y por lo tanto tener mejor calidad de vida. En lugar de darme aliento me desanimaban más”, finalizó García Barajas.
