“Las cataratas son la principal causa de ceguera en el mundo. México presenta cada año alrededor de 140 mil nuevos casos, lo cual es un verdadero problema de salud, porque además se combina con otras tragedias, como fracturas por caídas, golpes, accidentes, etc.”, señaló David Melgoza Montañez, presidente municipal de Tangancícuaro.
En el marco de las jornadas de cirugía de cataratas y estrabismo, iniciativa del alcalde, dijo que esta problemática de salud visual está afectando sobre todo a personas mayores de 65 años, quienes muchas veces no le dan la importancia debida, pues asocian su deficiencia visual a la edad, “muchos no saben que las presentan porque no acuden a la detección”.
Puntualizó que esta campaña pone en marcha cirugías correctivas de cataratas, las cuales buscan devolver la vista a los pacientes y mejorar su calidad de vida, “toda vez que le regresa la productividad al paciente, lo hace sentir vivo y contribuye a que se integre a la cuestión económica”.
Resaltó que afortunadamente las cataratas se corrigen con cirugía, la gran desventaja es que este procedimiento quirúrgico es muy costoso, ya que en nuestra región sale de 25 a 30 mil pesos por ojo, mientras que en las grandes ciudades estas cirugías se cobran hasta en 50 mil pesos”.
“Por ello, con el apoyo de los municipios de Zamora y Jacona; así como del sector empresarial logramos optimizar el costo de estas cirugías, ya que la clínica ISAM, donde se realizaron, únicamente nos cobró 600 pesos por paciente, cuando en los hospitales son más de 10 mil pesos en promedio”, concluyó.
